Is a test only for measuring what you know?

No — testing is a LEARNING tool, not just an assessment; the act of being tested changes what you know.

The deep reframe of this whole field: we're used to thinking of a quiz as a measurement taken after learning. But the evidence shows the quiz is learning — each retrieval modifies memory and improves it.

This flips the classroom logic: instead of "study, then test to see how it went," the efficient loop is "test as a way to study." Practically, that means front-loading self-quizzing throughout your studying, not saving it for a final mock exam.
