Network communications, network security, routing, and service discovery protocols.
| Protocol Type | Description |
|---|---|
| Network Communications | Enable two or more devices to communicate over one or more networks |
| Network Security | Secure data by providing authentication, data integrity, and data encryption |
| Routing | Enable routers to exchange route information, compare path information, and select the best path |
| Service Discovery | Used for automatic detection of devices or services on the network |
Implementation: Protocols can be implemented in software, hardware, or both. Each protocol has its own function, format, and rules.
