What are the three fundamental elements required for any communication to occur?
Source (sender), destination (receiver), and a channel (the media that carries the message between them).
Every communication requires three elements:
- Source (Sender) - The device or person originating the message
- Destination (Receiver) - The device or person receiving the message
- Channel (Media) - The pathway that provides the route for communications to occur
Key point: Networks can vary in size and complexity, but it is not enough to have a connection - devices must agree on "how" to communicate.
Go deeper:
Telecommunications — basic system (transmitter, channel, receiver) — the same source/channel/destination model underlies every communication system.
Communication protocol — how the three elements are governed by agreed rules.
