What is Exodus Privacy, and how does it analyze Android apps for trackers without installing them?
Exodus Privacy performs static analysis of Android APKs — signature-matching embedded tracking SDKs and flagging dangerous permissions — producing a privacy report without ever running the app.
How it works:
- APK upload / search — upload an APK or search 100,000+ already-analyzed apps at
reports.exodus-privacy.eu.org - Signature-based detection — pattern-matches the APK against a curated database of 400+ known tracker SDK signatures
- Permission analysis — identifies dangerous permissions (Location, Contacts, Microphone) and their purpose
- Reports — tracker count, privacy score, permission list, historical tracking trends
Because it's static analysis (examining the package, not running it), it needs no installation and no special access — making it the standard, legal way to audit Android apps for embedded trackers.
