What is "vishing," and how does it relate to phishing?
Vishing is voice phishing — the same credential-stealing trick run over a phone call instead of email.
Phishing (from "password" + "fishing") spies out login information, classically via email. Vishing (voice phishing) does it over the telephone, leaning heavily on social engineering — the attacker talks the victim into revealing data or taking an action (e.g. posing as IT support or the bank).
Why voice can be more effective: a live, urgent human voice applies social pressure that a static email can't — authority, urgency, and the awkwardness of saying "no" to a person.
Tip: Same defence as email phishing — don't act on an inbound contact. Hang up and call back on the official number you looked up yourself. Test your phishing-spotting skills at ebas.ch/phishingtest.
