What makes a good locus (a station on the route)?
A distinct, stable, unambiguous spot — one clear object or position that can hold exactly one image.
Good loci are specific and memorable: the front door, the coat hook, the hall table, the sofa, the fridge. Qualities to aim for:
- Distinct — clearly different from its neighbours (don't use four identical chairs in a row).
- Stable — a fixed feature, not something that moves or disappears.
- Well-lit and separated — so on recall you "arrive" at one spot and find one image.
Tip: Vary the type of locus — furniture, a corner, an appliance, a picture — so they don't blur together.
